After
many years devoted to a career I've returned to my
greatest joy: creating art. Throughout the years it
has been there, squeezed in when I had time and
squeezed out when I didn't.
What a lucky woman I am to be able to do what I love all the time now! I love the challenge of creating something new, the concentration of solving technical problems, the rush of seeing something completed that had once been just a flash in my mind.
Here in Seattle, creating jewelry has been my focus for the past few years but, as many of my friends know, containers are my secret addiction. Big jars, little boxes, if it has a lid I love it. So soon I'll be exploring containers both as jewelry and on their own.
And that's one of my favorite things about creating art. You never know what's coming next.
Lots of people comment on the Laughing Girl Arts name. It comes from a photo of me at about age 4. It's a classic kid's portrait from the '50s. I look happy and relaxed and I'm just about to laugh. I can remember the feel of the summery cotton dress I was wearing and the funny bangs that my mom always tried to cut straight (without much success). It captures the joy and freedom I feel when I'm creating.
I hope some of that joy passes along to you as you wear my pieces.
