Heading towards Spring

I’m back in Seattle after 3 weeks in sunny Mexico. It’s our annual pilgrimage to the sun in the middle of the gray Seattle winter. It’s amazing how much more alive I feel after having the sun on my face. And Mexico is always an inspiration: the culture, the people, the art--all get my brain working on new design ideas.

I left the new studio only partly set up. There are boxes everywhere but it will slowly get itself organized over the next couple weeks. Right now I’m in that horrible “I need X but don’t know which box it’s in” phase.

My wholesale accounts continue to grow with both new shops and re-orders. I’m enjoying this aspect of the business more and more. It’s interesting to talk with gallery and gift shop owners about what kind of things sell in their area and what it’s like owning a shop in the current economy. Most of the people I talk with are braced for lean times but hopeful for an improving future. This year seems to be the benchmark for many. Now that the Christmas season is over the true test of the retail business begins.

I’m waiting to hear back on a couple 2009 juried shows I’ve applied for and I’ll post the dates here as soon as I know them. In the meantime, please browse through the galleries!
