New Year, New Studio
Jan 2009
As I write this my
wonderful husband is down in the basement putting the
finishing touches on my new studio. For the past 3
years I’ve rented studio space for my work and
inevitably when I’m at the studio I need something at
home and when I’m at home I need something from the
studio. Having a nice new space here at home will
make things so much easier.
We’ve put in new windows, new flooring and painted the walls a lovely robin’s egg blue. Next up is finishing the work counters and then I get to move all my stuff in. I’m excited about that but at the same time not looking forward to the moving part.
This project evolved like so many in our household. Before we can achieve our objective we find about 100 things that have to happen first: clear out room in the basement, make countless trips to Goodwill, wipe down and dust everything within reach, decide where the electrical will go, decide that if we’re having the electrician in we should have some other things done at the same time, choose the overhead lights, install an exhaust system, etc, etc. For a while there I thought we’d never complete the process.
January is the perfect time to do the work because I don’t have shows at this time of year. Most of my work time is spent applying to 2009 juried shows and filling orders for my wholesale account. And I’m trying to get new photos of my work taken (very frustrating!).
As of today my rented studio is so disrupted I can’t work there and my new studio isn’t finished so I can’t work there. I’m a woman without a studio. So I’m throwing myself into the administrative part of having a business and running downstairs frequently to ask “how’s it going?”.
I love change and right now I’ve got a lot of it!
